Data is collected as an integrated part of the artworks concept and material, and is used for a multiple of different reasons in order to provide you with the best art experience possible. Further information is available in the sections below.


Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

By viewing and engaging with the artwork you allow access to certain personally identifiable information that can be used to identify you ("Personal Data"). The following data will be received and logged: Device identifiers, MAC addresses and Service set identifiers. The names of  previously used networks may also be received if you have not chosen to anonymise this data.


Participation data

Information may also be collected about how the artwork is engaged with ("Participation Data"). This Participation Data may include information such as the time and date of your visit, the time spent engaging with the artwork and other diagnostic data.


How the Data is obtained

Information is collected through a wireless network adapter in monitor mode, locating any device sending out wifi-probe request within the range of the art installation (marked out by signs) for the limited time that the work is exhibited.

The requests are messages sent by wifi-devices to locate any network they have been connected to previously. Your phone regularly broadcasts the MAC address and SSID of your home network, your work network and other networks that you have been using in the resent past.  Locating these signals is an easy way of tracking peoples movements, frequently used by companies and institutions in many shared spaces such as museums, malls and airports.


Use of Data

The artwork uses the collected data for various purposes:

  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of the artwork when you choose to do so.
  • To provide analysis or valuable information in order to improve, develop, update and extend the artwork or correlated works of art, in order to give you the best art experience possible.
  • To monitor the engagement with the artwork.
  • To archive data for historical, statistical, artistic and public interests and purposes.
  • To materialize and display visualizations of collected data as part of, or as an extension of, the artwork or correlated works of art. 


Transfer Of Data

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to - and maintained on - computers or servers located outside of your province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction. Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

All steps reasonably necessary will be taken to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. No transfer of your Personal Data will take place to any institution or country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

Your Personal Data will under no circumstances be transfered to any third-party company nor be directly sold in exchange for economic profit. Certain data will be obscured in order to protect data subjects Personal Data if visualized and displayed to the public as part of, or as an extension of, the artwork or correlated works of art.
